Announcement: Valentine's Recital Feb 9th

Wednesday, January 22, 2020 by Trevor Eisenman | Performances

A reminder that the Valentine's Recital is just around the corner! ♥

This year's Valentine's recital will take place on Feb 9th, Sunday, from 3:00-6:00 pm. For those families that will be attending one of our recitals for the first time, here's a quick rundown of facts:

  • Recitals are optional, but highly encouraged!
  • Any student is welcome to attend even if they are not performing. Watching one's peers successfully hop up on stage, perform and live to tell the tale can be inspiring to first-timers.
  • Family and friends are encouraged to attend to support their performers.
  • Performers must register via the online calendar. The online calendar is accessed through the Parent Portal at www.funmusic4u.com. There is a $10 registration fee per performer, to help cover the rental costs of the venue.
  • Recital fees are added to the next billing cycle. If you would prefer to pay cash, please give the funds to your teacher to hand in to me.
  • The recital is held in the Sanctuary at our studio location, 4451 Dunsmore Ave.
  • All of our recitals are potluck! Please bring something yummy to share. Holiday themed is great!
  • Students may play any piece, but we ask that holiday themed pieces go with their respective holiday recital. :) So no Halloween music for Valentine's, etc.
  • If you have any trouble registering, teachers may register your child on your behalf, or let me know by return email and I can do it for you.

The Valentine's Day Recital features personal messages from each teacher to each performing student, hidden in a red balloon with their name on it. After the recital (during the potluck), students find their balloon and pop it to get their special Valentine's message from their teacher. We also hand out blank Valentine's Cards to the students during sign-in so they can write a message to their teacher by the end of the recital. A little "attitude of gratitude" for the hard work the teachers do (they need encouragement too!).

We have recitals because it's good for students to have a goal with a time limit - because life is a series of goals with a time limit. Music recitals are a fun way to work towards a goal, and performing regularly builds confidence and invaluable communication skills. Since teachers have a very limited amount of time with each student, we do rely on parents to encourage their children to participate. You can be that they will ACE their first job interview if they have been performing in front of groups for years. :)

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Recital Contests

Saturday, November 2, 2019 by Trevor Eisenman | Performances

Thank you to all the families who participated in our Halloween Recital! Any event is only as great as the people who attend, and we had a fantastic recital.

We had a couple of contests announced at the event. The deadline for the Facebook Photo contest is Nov 5th! If you tried to upload photos to our Facebook Page and couldn't, read on:

  • Facebook Photo Contest
    • Apparently I'm the only person who can upload photos onto our Facebook Page. Right click with your mouse HERE to copy my email address or text photos to 818-925-6386.
    • Each photo uploaded onto our Facebook Page constitutes 1 point for the contest.
    • Each photo with more than 10 interactions (Likes, emoticons, etc.) counts as an additional point
    • The family with the most points by Nov 30 wins a $130 gift card (that's worth one month's lessons).
    • The deadline to get the photos in was Nov 5th.

So far only one family has submitted any photos, so their chances of winning the gift card are pretty high! :)

  • Costume Contest Winners
    • Please send at least one photo (if you have one) of your child if they won the costume contest, so I can announce them properly on our blog.
    • Alicia, Aidan, Natalie, James and Leni were our costume contest winners! If you haven't already notified me, please let me know which of the following two prizes you prefer:
      • Account to be credited for 1 free lesson (will apply to Dec lessons)
      • Account to be credited for the value of one lesson ($32.50) to be applied to the next $50 Awards Recital registration fee.

Having recitals and these contests creates a fun environment for the kids, but it also promotes our music education services. Every single photo submitted helps forward our mission to get music into the hands and hearts of as many people as possible. Please take the time to send in any photos we can share online.

Thanks,

Halloween Recital 2019 Date & Info

Thursday, October 3, 2019 by Trevor Eisenman | Performances

The Halloween Recital date will be on Sunday, Oct 27th, from 3pm to 6pm at our La Crescenta studio at 4451 Dunsmore Ave.

I was hoping to book Saturday, but turned out there was already an event booked that weekend at the church. So, Sunday it is!

Online Registration

  1. Visit www.funmusic4u.com. Use the “Forgot Password” feature if you haven’t logged in before. Whichever parent registered a student was automatically sent login info for the Parent Portal at the time of registration.
  2. Once logged in, click on Calendar (left-side menu)
  3. Use the View button to change the Calendar from daily to monthly (top right of calendar)
  4. Find the date and click the event
  5. Click the Register link. You’re done!

What to Expect

If this is your first recital with Fun Music School, here’s what to expect for Halloween:

  • Performances: Participation is encouraged, but optional. Students may perform any piece they wish, we only ask NO CHRISTMAS holiday pieces. There will be a card to fill out at the recital to write down which piece will be performed.
  • Costume Contest: Dressing in costume is optional (students, parents, pets...). The audience votes on each performer’s costume for their favorites in different categories:

Most Creative
Most Scary
Most Gross (ewwww...)
Most Funny

We’d love some giveaway items for the winners and raffle giveaways for extra fun. Got some? It’s ok to promote your own business with the giveaway, but of course, it should be family friendly.

  • Potluck: We’ve timed the event to end around dinner time. Please bring some food to share with the bonus of not having to make dinner after the recital! If you’d rather chip in for a Big Mama's and Papa’s 3-foot pizza, let me know and bring about $5 to the recital. We don’t charge for recitals, so there’s no budget for extras.
  • Help the Homeless: We do have to cover the cost of using the facilities for the recital. Please bring $5-10 (or more if you wish) for the donation tin (or more likely, plastic pumpkin!). All of the funds will be forwarded by UU to Ascencia (www.ascenciaca.org), which is dedicated to helping the homeless find a home.

Anyone may attend the recital, even if they don’t plan to perform. Please feel free to invite your family members, friends and neighbors to attend and cheer on the performers. A big crowd makes a big difference!
