How to Finance Music Lessons in a Bad Economy

Tuesday, August 16, 2022 by Trevor Eisenman | Uncategorized

It's no secret that costs are rising on all fronts and many families are re-evaluating how they spend their hard-earned cash.

We've already seen how the public school system dealt with tightening belts when the funding got slim. They kept STEM and sports, but ditched the music classes. For many young students, private lessons are the last and final defense. For those parents who see the value of learning music, we salute you! Raising kids is courageous in itself. Making sure they develop into responsible adults armed with the tools to succeed is a whole other level.

Science has already proven the efficacy of music education to develop a host of abilities in both young minds. Ironically, students who DO study music tend to have improved scores in STEM subjects, along with better leadership, communication, and team skills. I can't think of a better foundation for STEM and sports than learning music as early as possible.

I'm not here to implore you as parents to continue paying for music lessons. If you are reading this, then I'm preaching to the choir. Instead, I want to offer you a way to lower your monthly expenses so it's even easier to afford music lessons for your child or children.

Not only do you save money on your own monthly expenses, but Fun Music is also supported with a small commission. This allows us to keep our expenses lower, so it's a win-win all around.

We already tried it out ourselves, and within 2 days had saved $300 off our Spectrum bill over the next 12 months. If you own a commercial establishment, there may be massive savings available to you as well, not just the average residential customer savings of $500-$1500 per individual.

I'll let the video explain the details. But if you want to skip right to the savings part, visit https://expensehack.com/BillSaver

Let us know how much you save! We're really hoping this makes it a no-brainer to keep music lessons going for as many people as possible.

Best,

Holiday Special & New Beg's Piano Workshop

Tuesday, November 19, 2019 by Trevor Eisenman | Uncategorized

Dear Parents,

As Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season approaches, I'd like to express my gratitude for all the teachers, students and parents who make up our Fun Music School community. I appreciate your investment into your children's education (or your own, if you're an adult student). It's also an investment into the community and future leadership, because of the cognitive development music education brings to the table.

So thank you for being there and contributing to bettering our culture as a whole.

For the Holidays we are also announcing a Special Offer for music lessons, for new students. If you would like to share the gift of music with others, remember we do give a $20 credit for each referral  that signs up and purchases lessons for at least a month. Special kudos to Kelly Katzberg, Connie Millar, Ashima Gupta and Rathi Ranganathan who have referred new students since the Fall season started! It makes a huge difference when parents refer our teachers.

If you'd like to share us with your friends, neighbors and family members, here is our current special valid through Dec 15th:

We are also announcing a new beginner's piano workshop!

This 8 lesson course features a playing-based approach to piano that has students playing songs from their first lessons. The very first piano workshop is scheduled to take place in December, and the tuition is half-off because it's a test-pilot (or beta test, if you're Gen X or a millennial!). As this is our very first workshop, we'll be testing our format and the whole process, so now's your chance to take advantage of the lower tuition!

Normally the classes would be 1X per week, but for the test we probably doing 2 classes per week to get through it quickly. While the workshop is suitable for ages as young as 6, we recommend parents take the workshop with younger children to help them along. The workshop has some really great features and is a unique approach to learning piano. I have tested it personally on children and adults, and the results were astounding!

To find out more, visit our new webpage detailing out the the workshop: Fun Music Piano Workshop

All of us here at Fun Music wish you a fantastic and family-filled Thanksgiving Holiday and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Thanks,

Time to Celebrate with a Drink!

Tuesday, November 19, 2019 by Trevor Eisenman | Uncategorized

A celebratory drink of water, of course!

What's the cause of the celebration? Well, we just recently made it official and signed a lease with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Verdugo Hills to lease out their space for our music lessons. The real reason this is cause to celebrate is because we can now offer some additional services, such as group lessons. We've already been busy designing our first piano workshop in a group format. Next up will be some percussion/rhythm classes and maybe some guitar or ukulele classes. Let us know what you'd be interested in! We'll work to provide it.

Back to the drink. I'm not much of a drinker, except for water. And that's what I'm referring to! I don't know about you, but I'm not super fond of tap water. Bottled water is ok for our potlucks, but when it comes to having water on hand for our student musicians and their parents - we've come up with something even better!

Introducing the Fun Music School water pitcher! Hmmm, that seemed a lot more fantastic when I said it in my head. Ah well. If you've been at the school for a lesson, and needed a glass of water, what did you do? Were you unsure if you could use a cup or use the water pitcher in the fridge? Fear no more, we've purchased our own filtered water pitcher just for the school's use. And it's top of the line.

The brand name is Alexapure. You may not have heard of it before, as you won't find it in a Vons or a Ralphs. The system was invented by a new father to ensure his newborn would have access to the best filtered water available, a smart move considering that bottled water isn't subject to the EPA Safe Drinking Water Act. Pretty sure I don't have to bring up the chlorine used to sanitize city water. What you may not know is old city pipes might be adding a few extras, like heavy metals or lead.

Since I personally am affected very adversely by metals (I happen to be allergic to metal), I wasn't willing to risk so-so water filtration on the basis of cost. My research led me to Alexapure, which also has air filtration products, by the way. Anyway, I was impressed with their filtration system, so we purchased it for ourselves and for the school.

The pitcher is currently stored in the refrigerator closest to the outside kitchen door. It's a white and clear pitcher. If it's low on water, please take the time to fill it up. Personally I pop the top off instead of using the refill-hole in the lid, because it's hard to see how full it is and I always mess it up.

I have also placed a little basket of plastic cups on the counter between the two refrigerators (also labeled "Fun Music School" like the pitcher) so you don't have to worry about cleaning up any cups, etc. The basket is an aquamarine/white weave basket, in the shape of a rectangle.

Turns out Alexapure has sales on a regular basis. I was able to snag replacement filters for about $20, which I believe is the cost of replacement Britta filters. So if you have good timing, it's not as expensive as it might seem at first glance.

Anyway, please help yourself to water while you're at the school for lessons. If you are in the market for a water filtration system, clicking on the links in the article and purchasing through Amazon helps support the school, as we are an Amazon Affiliate. Any earned funds goes into our budget for supporting supplies and additional music programs, like our new Piano Workshop

Here's a list of what the Alexapure system filters out:
