Time to Celebrate with a Drink!

Tuesday, November 19, 2019 by Trevor Eisenman | Uncategorized

A celebratory drink of water, of course!

What's the cause of the celebration? Well, we just recently made it official and signed a lease with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Verdugo Hills to lease out their space for our music lessons. The real reason this is cause to celebrate is because we can now offer some additional services, such as group lessons. We've already been busy designing our first piano workshop in a group format. Next up will be some percussion/rhythm classes and maybe some guitar or ukulele classes. Let us know what you'd be interested in! We'll work to provide it.

Back to the drink. I'm not much of a drinker, except for water. And that's what I'm referring to! I don't know about you, but I'm not super fond of tap water. Bottled water is ok for our potlucks, but when it comes to having water on hand for our student musicians and their parents - we've come up with something even better!

Introducing the Fun Music School water pitcher! Hmmm, that seemed a lot more fantastic when I said it in my head. Ah well. If you've been at the school for a lesson, and needed a glass of water, what did you do? Were you unsure if you could use a cup or use the water pitcher in the fridge? Fear no more, we've purchased our own filtered water pitcher just for the school's use. And it's top of the line.

The brand name is Alexapure. You may not have heard of it before, as you won't find it in a Vons or a Ralphs. The system was invented by a new father to ensure his newborn would have access to the best filtered water available, a smart move considering that bottled water isn't subject to the EPA Safe Drinking Water Act. Pretty sure I don't have to bring up the chlorine used to sanitize city water. What you may not know is old city pipes might be adding a few extras, like heavy metals or lead.

Since I personally am affected very adversely by metals (I happen to be allergic to metal), I wasn't willing to risk so-so water filtration on the basis of cost. My research led me to Alexapure, which also has air filtration products, by the way. Anyway, I was impressed with their filtration system, so we purchased it for ourselves and for the school.

The pitcher is currently stored in the refrigerator closest to the outside kitchen door. It's a white and clear pitcher. If it's low on water, please take the time to fill it up. Personally I pop the top off instead of using the refill-hole in the lid, because it's hard to see how full it is and I always mess it up.

I have also placed a little basket of plastic cups on the counter between the two refrigerators (also labeled "Fun Music School" like the pitcher) so you don't have to worry about cleaning up any cups, etc. The basket is an aquamarine/white weave basket, in the shape of a rectangle.

Turns out Alexapure has sales on a regular basis. I was able to snag replacement filters for about $20, which I believe is the cost of replacement Britta filters. So if you have good timing, it's not as expensive as it might seem at first glance.

Anyway, please help yourself to water while you're at the school for lessons. If you are in the market for a water filtration system, clicking on the links in the article and purchasing through Amazon helps support the school, as we are an Amazon Affiliate. Any earned funds goes into our budget for supporting supplies and additional music programs, like our new Piano Workshop

Here's a list of what the Alexapure system filters out:
